Power Line Safety

Overhead power lines and buried utilities can pose serious hazards. Keep a safe distance and never touch, dig near, or otherwise interfere with utility lines.

Overhead Lines

Always Look Up, Always Stay Safe

Always be aware of overhead power lines. Keep people, ladders and tools a minimum of 10 feet away from any overhead power lines. Accidental contact with power lines can cause significant injuries or death.

Work

If you are working in the vicinity of power lines, keep tools, ladders and people a minimum of 10 feet away from any power lines.

Trees

Do not climb or allow children to climb trees near power lines. Branches that contact a power line can conduct electricity.

Aerial

Never fly kites, drones, remote control airplanes, balloons or any other airborne object near power lines.

Buried Utilities

Call Before You Dig

Always call 811 before digging — never assume you know where utilities are buried. Failure to respect marked utilities can cause injury, death and costly damages. Once utilities are marked, avoid digging near them. If you must dig near a buried utility, use hand tools carefully instead of heavy machinery.

Electrical Equipment

Keep Clear, Leave Room

Leave at least 10 feet of clear space in front of the door of pad-mounted transformers, and three feet on other sides. Do not plant bushes or flower or build fences near transformers. Never allow children to play near or tamper with pad-mounted transformers.

Downed Power Lines

Stay Away and Report

If you come across a downed power line, stay far away from it and report it to us immediately at 479-521-2900. Always assume power lines are energized, and do not attempt to move them or drive around or over them.
